We intend to use this forum to discuss topics in and around our core focus area of remotely monitoring, managing, and safeguarding Critical Infrastructure.
We are living in a unique period of convergence where Information Technology (IT) Business Systems and Operational Technology (OT) physical supporting infrastructure systems, are now intersecting. Traditionally, these two technologies operated in separate and distinct networked environments. With increased connectedness, comes increased risk. Gartner predicts that by 2025, over 30% of Critical Infrastructure organizations will experience a security breach (Gartner, 2021). It is no longer enough to stand up a firewall at the perimeter of your organization and consider that your environment is secure.
Malevolent actors from a variety of backgrounds have easy access to capabilities and infrastructure that can adversely affect or disrupt an organization’s operations and potent nation-state actors representing advanced persistent threats are omnipresent. Insidious attack vectors continue to be exploited and supply chains have been compromised with disastrous consequences. Gartner further suggests that security and risk managers adopt a holistic approach to security so that IT, OT, and IoT are managed in a coordinated effort (Gartner, 2021).
